Οι Ιάπωνες δημιουργούσαν το μεγαλύτερο και ακριβότερο κατασκευαστικό έργο του 20ου αιώνα αξίας 20δις $$$$$$!!!!!!! 
Με μήκος 4km και πλάτος 2,5km έχει βραβευθεί από το American Society of Civil Engineers. ως το μνημείο μηχανικής της χιλιετίας!!!. Μεταφέρθηκαν στη θάλασσα περίπου 20 εκατομύρια κυβικά μέτρα μπαζόματος(3 βουνά) και για την ολοκλήρωση του έργου που διήρκεσε μόλις τρία χρόνια δαπανήθηκαν 10εκ. εργατοώρες.Το αεροδρόμιο συνδέεται με τη μεγαλύτερη δικτυωτή γέφυρα(truss bridge) σε όλο τον κόσμο με μήκος 3750m.
Μετά την ολοκλήρωση του έργου όμως οι Ιάπωνες μηχανικοί διαπίστωσαν πως το νησί βυθιζόταν με ρυθμούς πολύ πιο γρήγορους από ότι είχε προβλεφθεί με αποτέλεσμα τη σήμερον να έχει ήδη βυθιστεί κατά 8 ολόκληρα μέτρα!!! βυθιζόμενο 50cm το χρόνο. Οι Ιάπωνες μηχανικοί όμως δεν πτοήθηκαν. Τοποθέτησαν ανυψωτικά εφέδρανα με γρύλους στη βάση των υποστυλωμάτων των μόνιμων κατασκευών του αεροδρομίου για να προλάβουν τις διαφορικές καθιζήσειςκαι παράλληλα με βελτιωτικά έργα στην υπόβαση του έργου κατάφεραν να μειώσουν το ρυθμό βύθισης σε 8 cm το χρόνο.
Το αεροδρόμιο παρέμεινε ανέπαφο μετά από ένα τυφώνα με ανέμους άνω των 200km/h και επέζησε από τον καταστροφικό σεισμό του Κόμπε μεγέθους 7,2ρίχτερ χωρίς ούτε ένα σπασμένο τζάμι.
Οι Ιάπωνες αυτή τη στιγμή σχεδιάζουν την επέκταση του αεροδρομίου με τη δημιουργία ακόμα ενός νησιού μεγαλύτερου από του υπάρχοντος(ελπίζοντας να μην επαναλάβουν τα λάθη του παρελθόντος) που θα αντικαταστήσει τον σημερινό αεροδιάδρομο που μια μέρα μοιραία θα βυθιστεί...

Since you did me the favor of coming to my site, I thought I'd come over and say 'hello.' Difference is, I won't call you names or render any snap judgments on you as you did to me.
My articles aren't the same as anything else you find on the net, which is the reason I started the site and news organizations such as BBC, WSJ, CNN International, several media organizations in GR and the Greek Consulate have linked to it (and stolen from me). I've never used the words 'exotic' or 'adventure' to describe my time in GR, and I cringe when others do. I hate clueless ksenoi who giggle and rant about things they don't understand, I don't romanticize anything as charming or poetic, and I hated the Big Fat Greek movie. I have not tamed any natives, in fact I openly admit that I am still in the exact place I was when I first arrived no matter that I've learned to speak Greek, managed to accomplish anything small by fighting tooth and nail and developed connections.
In many articles, I describe the disadvantages and advantages to every place in the world, and stress that no country is perfect (certainly not the one I'm from, and I'll be the first to criticize it and listen every day to people doing the same). If there was a Utopia, we'd all live there. When people ask me what is the "best" place or what they should do, I turn the decision back to them. I do not discourage people from living here; in fact, I give them the information to come make a life if they'd like. I tell them most definitely that living life anywhere is not something in which you can find neat answers by querying Google. My personal stories are just one person's experience, and theirs may or may not be the same.
Nowhere on my site do I speak for Greeks, but plenty of Greeks making comments speak for themselves and make criticisms much harsher than I ever would. I speak only for myself about the inexplicable but divisive love I carry for this country, which many have likened to Nikos Dimou (whom I see is in your blogroll). Maybe we are not as far apart as you think; maybe it's just a misunderstanding.
Articles are based on hard data from legitimate sources, which are always listed. And personal stories are from my life (simply my experience), which others can verify and many have told me they've experienced the same across all nationalities.
In only one place of 300 articles, I mention donkeys and fustanella, and it's clear you misunderstood that the "You're not Greek" list is a jab at us non-Greeks. You appear very fixated on it and without good reason. If you want to see a truly stereotypical list, try looking at the ones published by Greeks about "You know you're Greek if." Now that's incredibly stereotypical, but Greeks still laugh at it. Why?
In the end, I can see you've based your opinion of me and my site on reading a mere 10 articles according to the IP tracker's information. That's a knee-jerk reaction at best. Well, I can't appeal to everyone.
